We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Appointment in Soft Condensed Matter Group at Argonne National Laboratory. The position is related to the research in active matter field; in particular, the focus is on new bio-inspired out-of-equilibrium colloidal materials. The candidate will conduct research at the forefront of experimental soft condensed matter physics. The primary focus will be on dynamic self-assembly and collective phenomena in active (driven or self-propelling) colloidal systems in the bulk, microfluidic films and LC media.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Physics or related field, experimental experience with colloidal or LC materials, a strong experimental/theoretical background in soft matter, experience with optical microscopy, skills in image processing (PIV, particle tracking, 3D visualization), knowledge of experimental techniques for characterizing granular and colloidal materials in equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions, basic programing skills (MATLAB, LabView, Python etc.) and good written and oral communication skills.
This position will involve a considerable amount of experimental laboratory work with a variety of video-microscopy techniques. The work will also include a variety of measurements and techniques such as PIV, electro transport measurements, lithography, 3D printing at microscale and related techniques. The postdoc is expected to think and work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of physicists, chemists and materials scientists.
